My 3000th blog post

My, how time flies. This, I am told, is my 3000th post on this blog. It was originally called blogspot.com way back when I started this blog way in 2004. I was a 20-somthing in seminary in Chicago. It was the heyday of blogging back then, just on the dawn of the social media boom. Facebook was in theory in existence, but no one knew what it was at that point. I think AIM instant messenger and MySpace were what passed as social media platforms. No one had ever heard of a twitter. I think I had a pay as you go cell phone for emergency, but it was certainly not a smart phone. I am not sure if my phone in those days even sent texts, and if it did, you have to pay for them one by one by peeking out the alpha-numeric keys. 

I wouldn't meet my now wife for another 3 years. I had a full head of hair. My shoulder didn't hurt when I woke up in the middle of the night. I could hope on the L train at any time and go wherever I wanted in Chicago whenever I wanted for no reason whatsoever. I thought I was on a mission to change the world. It would be almost 15 years before anyone heard of that weird thing called COVID.

A lot has happened in those 20+ years on this blog. I took some entire years off and never blogged during those times after I left the ordained ministry. Blogging has long since been replaced by TikToks and Youtube vlogs. Not too many people blog anymore in the classic blogging sense. A few people still do, but it's not nearly as common.

Having said that, I will make this brief. I just want to wish everyone a Happy Blogoversary. Still blogging after all these years. Here's to another 20+.

Thoughts on the 'Connecticut 6'

For some weeks, I have had several friends (mostly non-Episcopalians surprisingly) wanting me to voice an opinion on this Connecticut 6 (sounds like a fleabag motel) business. If you are unfamiliar with this fiasco, for lack of a better term, let me describe it as best as I understand it. My board gaming journey, pt. I

     Something a bit different today than my normal reflections. I thought I would delve a little bit more into a topic that is not necessarily theological in nature. I am a real person, and not some ethereal doctor in an ivory tower who gets to smoke a pipe and contemplate the infinite mysteries all day. So, today, I thought I would delve into one of my personal hobbies: board gaming.      Now, do not tune me out because you hear "board gaming" and immediately default in your brain to your brother overturning a table with Monopoly money flying everywhere because the game has gone on for hours and overturning the table was the only option left other than murder. My boardgaming journey, part II

     Last week, I posted a bit on my hobby of board gaming. I was not sure if anyone would read that post, as it is not my usual faire on this blog. For whatever reason, that post got way more views than anything I have posted in a while. For what it's worth, I will continue my little series of monographs on board gaming, as there appears to be some interest.      My assumption for these first few board game blog posts is to start with the basics that I wish I had known when I started getting into board gaming. As I went into in my first post on this topic, I largely blundered into the modern board gaming world quite by accident.
